Job Description

This person has the responsibility of the overall plant operations with the direction of the Lead Operator.  They will be responsible for safe operations, and in emergency situations, the safe shut down of the plant.  They maintain proper material flow through the various operating steps within the proper parameters, such as temperature and pressures.  They also make necessary process control analysis.  The duties include the regulation of the feed of sulfur, and/or sludge, waste, acid, water, air and steam to control the operating conditions of burners, blowers, coolers, filters, towers, neutralization systems, plant utilities, etc.  The various types of equipment.  They must be familiar with moving machinery, such as motors, turbines, generators, blowers, pumps, high pressure boilers, etc.  They must also understand the safety features to be observed in handling concentrated sulfuric acid, sulfur dioxide, sulfur trioxide, waste, sodium hydroxide and molten sulfur.  In addition, they shall perform any and all other work within the classification to which they are assigned.  Expected to keep all areas of responsibility in a safe, neat and orderly condition.  Reporting all HS&E concerns, as well as stopping all jobs which present HS&E risks is mandatory.

Hours: Rotating shifts.  Typically 8 hours per day during normal operations.  May be required to provide vacation and/or STD relief coverage, start up, shut down or upset coverage.  

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:            Applicants for this job must high school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.   They are required to have basic knowledge of math, chemistry, and chemical processes.  The applicant must demonstrate safe behavior and teamwork.  They must also demonstrate basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills.  Must be reliable in order to provide regular unit staffing and should expect to work regularly without direct oversight from the unit supervisor.
